Public health-related capacity building
A framework for building capacity to improve health (pdf 200kb)
This document provides guidance on the concept of capacity building and how to enhance the capacity of the health system to improve health outcomes. It suggests that capacity building can be undertaken not just within health programs, but also directly with communities. The document emphasises five key action areas in capacity building:
- Organisational change
- Workforce development
- Resource allocation
- Partnerships
- Leadership
The framework provided increases the likelihood that health promotion programs will be sustained and that health service providers or communities will have greater capacity to independently address future health challenges, whatever those may be.
