Improving community capacity (pdf 120kb)
This article explores the role of community capacity building as an important part of successful primary health care, and provides some guidance to practitioners on how to undertake community capacity building in health.It presents the evidence for building community capacity, describes key elements in the process, presents a model of assessment, analysis and action for community capacity building and explains key steps for practitioners.
Two case studies are presented to illustrate how community capacity building works in reality, from the perspective of both developed and developing countries.
