2007 AIDS epidemic update (pdf 1.6mb)
This report from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNAIDS provides an updated estimate of the number of people with HIV globally.In addition, it also explores the human toll of the epidemic and explores new trends in the way the epidemic is progressing.
Key issues and findings covered in the report include:
- The estimated number of persons living with HIV worldwide in 2007 was 33.2 million, a reduction of 16% from 2006
- The global prevalence of HIV infection remains at the same level, while the global number of persons living with HIV is increasing because of longer survival rates
- There has been a reduction in HIV-associated deaths, partly attributable to the recent scaling up of access to treatments
