Asian models for aid: is there a non-Western approach to development assistance? (pdf 480kb)

This report makes comparisons between Western and Asian aid donor and policy, focusing in particular on the aid programmes of Japan, China, India and South Korea.

The report explores several key differences in the policies and approaches of Western and Asian aid donors, including issues such as conditionality and non-interference, and aid linked to trade and investment.

It also notes the challenge of donor competition, fragmentation of efforts, and reduced aid effectiveness and accountability due to increasing numbers of donors
