HIV and infrastructure: ADB experience in the Greater Mekong subregion
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has developed a body of experience in addressing human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) risks and enhancing HIV-prevention opportunities in association with large infrastructure projects and, thus, is able to share the lessons and recommendations from this experience.Different HIV-prevention models have been developed and adapted, which have resulted in successful programs and learning experiences on the ground.
From February to July 2007, ADB conducted a case study review of four transport projects in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). The review aimed to assess the effectiveness of design and implementation features, and the impact of the provisions made for HIV prevention. Key lessons and recommendations have been identified accordingly.
