Local health managers in difficult environments: lessons learned; unusual successes; and a way forward (pdf 180kb)
This publication reports on the activities of a seminar held to explore the local health system manager's contribution to delivering services at the district or community level.The seminar aimed to:
- Highlight the importance of the local level heath system as the basic building block of public health and medical care services delivery
- Identify characteristics of the local health systems manager
- Identify influences such as national policy, partners and global initiatives that impinge upon the local health system manager
- Share stories of unusual successes of the local health system managers
- Identify ways to improve the capacity of the local health manager and to strengthen local health systems
