Securing the future? An exploration of prevalence and sustainability of community based organisations in Nepal (pdf 280kb)

This paper explores current trends and efforts for the prevalence and sustainability of Community Based Organisations (CBOs) in Nepal.

The study examines the growth of post-project based CBOs and the subsequent downturn in participation in the organisations. These organisations at local level are diverse and are identified by using different classifications. These identifications are normally constructed according to the nature, coverage, specialisation, function, and many other characteristics of the organisations.

The research finds that there needs to be an urgent shift in policy to promote the sustainability of CBOs and, thereby, enhance development outcomes.
