This discussion paper, commissioned by the National Water Commission and undertaken by GHD, explores the use of recycled water to supplement drinking water supplies in Australian towns and cities.The paper is divided into a number of sections addressing the following issues:

- Comparisons between this water supply option and other water supply options
- Risk and water quality issues
- Community concerns
The paper also includes case studies of recycled water use from around the world, as well as technical information about the process of recycling water for drinking.
