Australian Development Gateway

The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Using recycled water for drinking: an introduction (pdf 1.1mb)

This discussion paper, commissioned by the National Water Commission and undertaken by GHD, explores the use of recycled water to supplement drinking water supplies in Australian towns and cities.

The paper is divided into a number of sections addressing the following issues:
- Background information on recycling to supplement drinking waters supplies
- Comparisons between this water supply option and other water supply options
- Risk and water quality issues
- Community concerns
 
The paper also includes case studies of recycled water use from around the world, as well as technical information about the process of recycling water for drinking.
