Land ownership systems
Who benefits from land titling? Lessons from Bolivia and Laos (pdf 240kb)
This paper looks at the gender impact of land titling reforms, drawing on case studies in Bolivia and Laos.It finds that in both countries, despite having legal and policy contexts which support equal access to titling for men and women, women still face significant social, political and cultural constraints to acquiring rights to land.
The paper concludes with some suggestions on key steps which can help ensure that women benefit more equally from formalisation of land titling systems.
