Corruption in trucking operations in India (pdf 1.1mb)
This Transparency International report assesses the extent and nature of corruption in the trucking operations in India. The report aims to estimate the extent of corruption in monetary terms, by collecting data from trucking company operators as well as drivers at 12 major trucking centres in India.
In its findings, the report documents a range of corrupt practices at every stage of trucking operations, including:
- Bribes
- Stopovers
- Driving irritants
- Departmental 'cash drop' boxes
The report concludes that for every kilometer covered by commercial trucks on road, an average 0.70 rupiahs per kilometer is extracted as bribes or other corrupt practices.
