Philippines: critical development constraints (pdf 2.2mb)
This report by the Asian Development Bank identifies the major critical constraints to growth and poverty reduction in the Philippines, and discusses policy options for addressing these constraints. Some of the key critical constraints to growth discussed in the report include: - A tight fiscal situation
- Inadequate infrastructure, particularly in electricity and transport
- Weak investor confidence due to governance concerns, in particular, corruption and political instability
- Inability to address market failures leading to a small and narrow industrial base
This study also looks at the response of the Philippine Government's policies towards these issues, and the need for further efforts to overcome them.
