AusAID Development Research Strategy 2008-2010 (pdf 880kb)

This strategy outlines the way AusAID will increase the role of development research in contributing to the effectiveness of Australia's aid program between 2008 to 2010.

It aims to help AusAID ensure that quality research better informs AusAID and partner countries' policies and programs, and builds capacity of researchers and research users.

Five core elements to this new approach are outlined:
- Funding increases for development research to 2010
- New quality assurance and control processes
- Improving links between research and policymakers
- Increasing focus on capacity building needs when considering research
- Leveraging existing linkages with the rest of the Australian Government and with other donors to strengthen research quality

The strategy concludes that good research leads to greater development effectiveness, as well as helping partner countries improve their capacity to develop their own solutions to solve local problems.
