Australian Development Gateway

The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

This AusAID brief outlines Australia's approach to providing humanitarian and development assistance to Afghanistan.

The goal of Australia's reconstruction and development support to Afghanistan from 2007-2010 is to assist the Afghan Government and people achieve a stable, self sustaining democratic Afghan state.

Assistance will be provided in a range of areas, including:
- Strengthening state institutions and civil society
- Removing remaining terrorist threats
- Meeting the challenge of counter-narcotics
- Supporting the better delivery of basic services with a particular emphasis on women's and children's health and education
