The stigmatisation of leprosy in India: impact on future approaches to elimination & control (pdf 110kb)
This article presents a review of leprosy in India and highlights future challenges in control the disease.It documents a range of historical and contemporary reasons contributing to the marginalisation of people suffering from leprosy, and also describes the government's efforts to detect, treat and eliminate leprosy.
The article concludes that further reducing leprosy in India requires a holistic approach that includes ongoing education, tackling stigma, and the inclusion of traditional practitioners in disease control programs.
