Australian Development Gateway

The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Poverty and the environment: understanding linkages at the household level (pdf 330kb)

This report seeks to analyse how environmental changes affect the poor at the household level.

It focuses primarily on environmental resources that are outside the private sphere, particularly commonly held and managed resources such as forests, fisheries, and wildlife.

Chapters of the report examine a range of issues including:
- The links between poverty, natural resources and environmental degradation
- Health outcomes and environmental pollutants
- Household welfare and policy reforms
- Future directions for environment and poverty
