Podcasting reviewed (pdf 202kb)
This document serves as a non-technical guide for those in the learning and training community who are new or relatively new to podcasting and videocasting (vodcasting) and want to explore its potential as part of learning solutions. The authors argue that podcasting can be used in a range of ways, from workshops or e-learning sessions, to motivating learners.
Eight steps to effective podcasting are discussed including the need to:
- Clarify audiences and objectives
- Establish format
- Set up hardware and software
- Prepare the interview
- Prepare the record
- Record, edit and output
- Set up the RSS feed
The natural next step for podcasting is to take advantage of video. Since podcasting became mainstream, it has been quickly followed by YouTube and the potential of user-generated video as a means of communication.
