Australian Development Gateway

The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

ICT4D: an integrated approach for village communities (pdf 400kb)

This paper reviews the needs of villages in the North-East of Sri Lanka, the way in which ICT can assist, and the current state of play for ICT4D as it applies to village communities.

It explores the role of information and communications technology (ICT) in development. Looking specifically at when and for what purpose developing communities at a village level should invest in ICT, taking into account the competing demands from other development priorities including health, education, and infrastructure.

In conclusion, the paper proposes a five step planning process for village communities.
