Information and Communication Technology in rural development
The case studies in this volume spell out various applications of information and communication technology (ICT) that have made a difference in the delivery of services or products in rural areas in India. There are 17 cases covering various sectors in rural areas in India. The cases draw lessons from experiences in using ICT for rural development. Each case is authored by the administrators who have piloted and implemented the projects and who describe both the opportunities and challenges in the diffusion of ICT.
The authors conclude that implementing ICT in rural development projects will require paying attention to three key factors of success: a) for whom, b) what bundle of services (multipurpose), and c) how well they are managed.
