A livelihoods approach to communication and information to reduce poverty

This website presents key findings and makes recommendations on how agencies can capitalize on and integrate the best elements of traditional communication methods and the ICT revolution technologies within the livelihoods approach.

Livelihoods approaches are being adopted by governments and development agencies to increase food security and eliminate poverty. The foundation of these principles are people-centred and highlight the diversity of poor people livelihoods and the need to analyse these in a holistic manner.

The rush to develop internet access in developing countries needs to be adjusted to the context of already established and effective communication systems, and specific attention needs to be given to bridging the rural digital divide between those who can afford access to the new technologies and those who cannot.
