International and regional policies and strategies
Global Information Society Watch 2007 Report
This report looks at ICT policy at the local and global levels and its impact on the lives of people living in developing countries, featuring studies of ICT policy in twenty-two countries.The report features studies of ICT policy in twenty-two countries from four regions including:
- Africa (Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and Uganda);
- Asia (Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and the Philippines);
- Latin America (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru);
- Eastern Europe (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania),
- Western Europe (Spain)
It highlights some of the conspicuous similarities between the countries. Excluding Spain, the other 21 countries each show obvious evidence of the "digital divide," which negatively impacts the majority of people.
Also included are some analytical essays on five international institutions (including ICANN and the World Intellectual Property Organisation) and questions the extent to which they allow all stakeholders to participate in their processes.
