This paper examines the social impact of people-oriented approaches to conservation, in the context of protected area management in Vietnam.Based on case studies from Cat Ba National Park in Vietnam, the paper studies the social impact of six integrated conservation and development projects, both positive and negative.
It also draws out lessons on the factors undermining the effectiveness of such people-oriented conservation activities and how they can be improved in future.
