This report examines the achievements and lessons related to the disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration (DDR) of youth in Sierra Leone, with an emphasis on problems faced by girls and women seeking to reintegrate into society.Issues covered in the report include:
- An overview of DDR efforts in Sierra Leone
- Gaps in the DDR efforts
- Differences in DDR efforts with children, particularly girls
- Moving beyond DDR as a security and psychosocial intervention
The report also summarises key lessons and recommendations from the Sierra Leone experience on how best to assist the social reintegration of girls and women following a period of conflict.
