Impacts of violence and conflict

Conceptualising & addressing the mental health impacts of gender roles in conflict & peacemaking (pdf 40kb)

This paper looks at the mental health impacts of recent conflicts in Melanesia on women, and offers a framework to assist women with post-conflict reconciliation and healing.

The paper examines the experiences of women in the Solomon Islands and Bouganville, focusing particularly on the impacts of conflict on their mental health.

It then draws on existing theoretical models and concepts of women's empowerment to provide suggestions on ways to help women recover from the impacts of conflict.
