My better future: improving livelihoods for marginalized girls and young women (pdf 2.8mb)
This report evaluates a My Better Future project in Cambodia, designed to address the needs of disadvantaged adolescent girls (aged between 13-24) with little or no education who, due to age and other factors, were unlikely to enter the formal school system. The goal of the three-year project was to engage these youth and their families in viable and sustainable livelihood activities to diminish the incidence of blind out-migration, thus supporting economic and community development in their home villages.
The 'My better future' learning program consists of 3 stages:
- 6 months of basic literacy and numeracy training
- 6-8 months of life skills and livelihoods preparation
- 6 months of skills training
and livelihoods consolidation.
A shorter modified learning program was also developed for delivery to youth working in brick factories.
