Australian Development Gateway

The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Growth strategies and dynamics: insights from country experiences (pdf 190kb)

This paper looks at the importance and challenge of designing and implementing strategies for growth in a developing economy.

It aims to contribute to the understanding of what works best in terms of encouraging sustainable and inclusive growth, and why.

The paper also highlights what does not work well, by drawing on country experiences, focusing in particular on China and, to a lesser extent, India. It argues that successful growth strategies require clarity about the objective, realism about the underlying model and socio-political buy-in.
