A tale of 4 diagrams: effective disaster risk reduction in an increasingly complex world (pdf 220kb)
A set of four diagrams which illustrate the need for a range of Risk Reduction initiatives. The diagrams illustrated include:
- Disaster Risk Management Cycle (DRMC) diagram shows the key initiatives which then take place in the Emergency Response and Recovery Stages. It also shows the role of the media in disasters, with there being a strong correlation between media exposure and financial resources raised (but ideally not necessarily spent).
- Comprehensive Disaster Risk Reduction (CDRR) diagram which focuses on Risk Reduction initiatives. The CDRR indicates that better Risk Reduction initiatives lead to both a reduction in likely impact from a disaster; and the quicker move from the Emergency Response to the Recovery Stage.
- Disaster Risk Management Planning (DRMP) diagram which indicates that in all countries there ideally should be government led DRMPs from national down to district levels.
- Project Management Cycle (PMC) diagram which describes the process carried out in normal community development projects. It is a tool which can be utilised for projects initiated during both the Recovery and Risk Reduction/Normal stages of the DRMC.
