Education in rural areas: obstacles and relevance (pdf 1.85mb)

This study focuses on education in rural areas and the obstacles faced by parents and children in developing countries.

Drawing on case studies from Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Kenya and Ethiopia, the study looks at the key obstacles to enrolment of children into rural education.  Such obstacles include poverty, household demands, the quality of education, and access to traditional forms of education.

The study provides lessons and recommendations on how access to education in rural areas can be improved based on its findings.
