Australian Development Gateway

The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Marine Protected Areas: providing a future for fish and people (pdf 4.1mb)

This document outlines the importance of Marine Protected Areas (MPA's) which offer a range of benefits for fisheries, people and the marine environment by providing a safe haven for depleted fish stocks to recover.

By establishing MPA's they also provide services to local communities who depend on the sea and its resources, increasing food security and reducing poverty. MPAs can also benefit local people by opening new opportunities to gain income.
