Education For All (EFA) Global Monitoring Report 2008

The monitoring report details the progress made since 2000 to improve access to primary school globally. The authors identify critical areas remaining in meeting the goals of Education For All (EFA).

To reach EFA, efforts need to be accelerated and more focused, with donors also making greater effort to harmonise procedures and align themselves with national policies.

The report advocates for increased spending on basic education by national governments and the international donor community. The 2008 report's mid-term review shows that countries and donors need to pay attention to adult literacy needs, early childhood care and education, and to offsetting the fees and indirect costs that remain a major obstacle to schooling for the poorest children.
