Australian Development Gateway

The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Champions of participation report (pdf 1.5mb)

This resource pack is the result of discussions involving over 40 people working inside and with local government to increase citizen engagement in local governance.

This pack contains a report of a major learning event in 2007, a short paper on policy perspectives and a set of eight case studies from the UK, USA, Nigeria, South Africa and India.

This report and case studies are divided into chapters and are listed on the right hand column of the webpage.

Some of the innovative approaches discussed include: Participatory approaches to budgeting, participatory planning, partnerships, public scrutiny, consultation and inclusion, and participation in service delivery.
