Berlin statement on International development training: final declaration of the High Level Retreat on the effectiveness of International development training (pdf 150kb)
This statement has been put together by a group of development training institutes who met in Berlin in mid 2008, providing guidelines on how to improve the effectiveness of international development training so as to be in line with the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness. The statement discusses training as it relates to capacity building efforts for individuals, organisations and institutions. While directed towards development training institutions, the document provides useful guidelines and lessons for any development agency or local organisation engaged in any form of training, including mentoring, coaching, secondments, peer exchanges or on-the-job training.
The document provides directives for improving ownership, alignment, harmonisation and collaboration and indicates six directions for future work that will help improve the delivery of training in the international development context.
