Participatory monitoring in tropical forest management: a review of tools, concepts & lessons learned (pdf 3.9mb)
This paper addresses the benefits of participatory monitoring, encouraging local people to ask questions about their forest and their forestbased livelihoods, think about change in a systematic way and respond with reasoned decision-making.The term "participatory monitoring" applies to monitoring activities that involve local people who may have not received specialist, professional training and who have varying skills, expertise, societal roles and interests.
This paper highlights case studies and analyses that will be helpful to scientists, field practitioners and those looking to explore, understand and implement participatory monitoring.
