Equity & gender issues
The gender dimension of school to work transition: East Asia & the Pacific region (pdf 380kb)
This report documents that more education and better education for women and girls does not necessarily lead to better labour market outcomes due to multiple cultural and social factors.The report presents three detailed case studies on school to work transition in East Asia and the Pacific and presents a set of recommendations to improve the transition for women and girls.
These recommendations include:
- Implement measures to change social perceptions through advocacy;
- Eliminate the perpetuation of gender biases in education via textbooks for example
- Legislate and enforce anti-discrimination laws in the labour market with regards to wage differentials for example
