Reconciling development & environmental goals: measuring the impact of policies (pdf 925kb)
This report summarises the projected economic and key environmental outcomes for developing countries over the next few decades. It draws on the baseline reference scenario developed for the OECD Environmental Outlook to 2030 (EO), however generally provides more detail for developing countries and emerging economies than that presented in the EO.The implications of these possible developments for policy coherence are discussed and illustrated by alternative scenarios. These include the following:
1) Reduced support to agricultural producers in OECD countries
2) Reduced tariffs on agricultural imports
3) Enhanced levels of official development assistance (ODA) targeted on the poorest countries
4) The widespread use of eco-labelling schemes for forestry and fisheries
5) A tariff on oil imports, higher labour force participation rates in OECD countries
6) Improved macroeconomic policies in developing countries
7) Ambitious structural reforms adopted by developing countries
8) More ambitious environmental policies in developing countries.
As this report was released prior to the recent global economic downturn, some of the projections may no longer be valid, but the policy directions are likely to be pursued, despite the economic climate.
