Life based learning: a strength based approach for capability development in vocational & technical education (pdf 45kb)
This report draws from technical and vocational education in all States of Australia and describes a new way of understanding local capacity or capabilities building, described as life based learning. The report is a comprehensive and well-documented description of a learning approach that is more suitable to the ambiguity and complexity of governments and communities in developing countries.
It uses more recent models of promoting change such as a strength based approach and building on local wisdom. It provides an alternative approach to capacity development that is consistent with most recent thinking. It is possible for Aid agencies to be effective and to collaboratively build on existing competencies and work within a context where there are multiple and competing agendas. Such agendas may seem opposite but co-exist such as you could find in any ecological system. The companion documents and the source URL are also valuable sources of information about new paradigms used in capacity building.
