Thematic areas

People with disabilities are not a homogenous group. Children with disabilities, for example, need access to inclusive education, whilst women with disabilities have needs which are different to men. There are specific issues to consider for including people with disabilities in emergency and post-disaster contexts which may vary from inclusion in stable development contexts.

The thematic areas in this section attempt to cover a number of areas that are specific to people with disabilities (such as accessibility and the built environment) as well as cross-cutting themes such as HIV and Aids and gender equality. Links to in-depth reports, current information and best-practice around disability inclusion in specific thematic areas, are provided.
