Australian Development Gateway

The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Workshop, Dhaka, Bangladesh

  • 17 - 20 November, 2008
  • Location: Dhaka, Bangladesh
  • Facilitator: Mr Chris Piper, TorqAid - www.torqaid.com with assistance from HealthConsult Associates Ltd (HAL).
  • The purpose of the DRM workshop is to provide practical skills for Humanitarian/Relief practitioners who are involved in the Risk Reduction, Emergency Response and/or Recovery Initiatives in Disaster Risk Management (DRM) situations.

    The workshop will look at global best practice in both DRM and the development and implementation of Disaster Risk Management Plans. This training is aimed at governmental, non-government organisation (NGO), Red Cross, UN and other stakeholder personnel. It will draw down on lessons learnt from both Bangladesh (eg the 2007 Cyclone Sidr) and other Asian (eg the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami; 2008 Myanmar Cyclone Nargis) major hazards and disasters.
